A set of 140 proposals academics, civil servants and undergraduate and graduate students were selected to integrate the programmatic offering of the Summer School 2024which will take place between January 4 and 19, under the name Creation, life and scenes.
UdeC thus reconnects with the internal and external community on its three campuses through the creation and dissemination of knowledge, art and culture, in an open invitation to reflection on the various societal challenges.
The academic season is organized by the Vice-Rector of Institutional Relations and Environmental Link (Vrim), under the coordination of the Directorate of Extension and the Art Gallery, and with the participation of the Link directorates Social, Institutional Relations, Postgraduates and Communications. , and the environmental liaison units (VcM) of Chillán and Los Ángeles.
The vice-rector of Vrim, Dr. Ximena Gauché Marchettiemphasized that the public, centenarian and citizen spirit of the University of Concepción has in the Summer University one of its oldest traditions of connection with the environment.
“Today, under the call Creation, life and scenes, the summer meeting hopes to present a critical, sensitive and proactive perspective to seek answers to the cultural, social, economic and environmental challenges facing our society; “We recognize that we are immersed in a time of many changes and transformations which are sometimes presented as uncertainties, which is why we believe this is a space to provoke reflections on them,” said academic authority.
In this sense, he valued the participation and contribution of the entire university community, in different disciplinary and knowledge areas, from the 3 campuses, which – according to him – makes it possible to compose a broad and varied program “from of which the UdeC, faithful to its founding being, contributes through the articulation of all its mission axes to the development of communities and territories at the local, national and international levels.
Of Extension and the Pinacoteca, its director(s), Javier Ramírez Hinrichsen, highlighted the response that the call had, which, as he recalled, is open to all university levels, it being understood that “the connection with the environment has to do with the whole community”.
In the selection, there are workshops, courses, seminars, symposiums, book presentations, among other activities that comply with the guidelines on VAW contained in the Institutional Strategic Plan and in the Policy and Development model. ‘Engagement with the Environment,’ he explained. .
“When we talk about the Summer School, we normally think about the extension or dissemination of knowledge, but other contributions also come into play here, because when we talk about links with the environment, we talk about of the way in which the university works in collaboration with its environment. , in the two regions and three cities where it is present,” he added.
Ramírez added that the application process also included requirements regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which – he said – are topics on the university’s agenda.
Of the total approved proposals, 71% correspond to activities presented by Concepción; 15% from Chillán and 14% from Los Angeles; while at the establishment level, 72% come from the academic world; 16% civil servants, 7% postgraduate students and 6% undergraduate students.
Around 75% correspond to workshops, 30% to presentations and the rest to other types of proposals such as conferences, round tables, symposia, etc.
Added to this are the activities of the artistic and cultural program that traditionally takes place at the Forum – which includes the presentations of the Symphony Orchestra – and the notable events that are already part of the summer days such as the award ceremony of the Biobío Competition in 100 words from the Plagiarism Foundation.
Postgraduate courses
On this occasion, the Summer School will offer 55 postgraduate courses which aim to enrich and diversify the different disciplinary fields covered by this level of training at UdeC.
The director of postgraduate studies, Bernardo Riffo Ocareshighlighted the work of the faculties in building educational proposals and programs of the highest quality, which contributed significantly to the development of interesting and relevant courses.
The result – he said – is an offer that covers different areas of knowledge and that adapts to the changing needs of our community.
The postdoctoral activities concentrate the participation of 56 academics from UdeC and the collaboration of 21 professors from other institutions, which – according to Dr. Riffo – demonstrates the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.
The joint effort, adds the academic, also extends to the international sphere with the inclusion of 51 academics from Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, the United States, from Spain, Finland, France, Holland, England, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland and Uruguay.
“This global knowledge exchange consolidates our position as an institution committed to internationalization and academic excellence,” said the director.
