Pro-Palestinian protesters who set up camp at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, B.C., have been told to pack up within 72 hours.
The BC Civil Liberties Association says a Vancouver judge issued an order directing that the camp be removed Thursday and that no other camps be established in the same area for 150 days.
The university has taken legal action against the protest following an Ontario court ruling granting the University of Toronto an injunction against an encampment there.
Anti-Israel-Hamas war camps began popping up at Canadian universities this spring, including the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria, with protesters demanding that those institutions cut ties with Israeli companies and institutions.
The civil liberties group said in a statement that it intervened in the case to argue that the court should consider the effects of an injunction on the protesters' rights, even if the encampment is on private property.
The association welcomed the court's ruling that the university's requested measures were “too broad,” but the judge also ruled that the protesters' rights did not infringe on the university's property rights.

The Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs said in a statement posted on social media that it was pleased the courts granted the injunction that will ensure all people can feel safe in their academic community.
