Costa Rica and Canada recorded respective victories over Trinidad and Tobago and Panama in the CONCACAF W Championship to secure their 2023 World Cup tickets.

Julia Grosso scored a touchdown in the 64th minute to give the Canadians the victory over the Panamanians.

Canada, who won gold at the Tokyo Olympics, dominated the canaleras but couldn’t beat them until Grosso scored their third goal of the championship.

Earlier, with a brace from Cristin Granados, Costa Rica beat Trinidad and Tobago 4-0.

Granados scored in the 18th and 44th minutes for the Costa Ricans, who virtually qualified for a World Cup for only the second time in their history, the first since 2015. The Canadian victory later secured their ticket.

Lauryn Hutchinson scored an own goal in the 33rd and Katherine Alvarado sealed the account in the 48th for Costa Rica.

The Trinidadians finished the game with 10 after Kedie Johnson was sent off in the 22nd following a second yellow card.

In the other group, the United States qualified for the World Cup the day before by beating Jamaica 5-0, which will settle another direct ticket on Monday when they face Haiti.

The Mexican hosts take on the Americans for the last group date in search of a seemingly impossible ticket to the playoffs.

Eight teams have been split into two groups in the W Championship. The top two from each group qualify for the World Cup. The third-placed teams will qualify for the Intercontinental Playoffs in February.

The W Championship winner also earns a spot at the 2024 Olympics in France.
