Characterized by incredible shows and acrobatics without the company of animals, this Canadian-born circus has established itself as an audience favorite thanks to the incredible themes, energy and youthfulness of its presentations.

History of Cirque du Soleil in Canada
The history of this fine company dates back to 1980, when Gilles Ste-Croix and Guy Laliberté founded a small group of artists who demonstrated their talent on the shores of the St. Lawrence River in Quebec City. Known among locals as the stilt walkers of Baie-Saint-Pauthis small group represented the beginning of Circus of the sun.
In 1984, on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the discovery of Canada, Guy Laliberté decided to take the show on tour in the province of Quebec. More and more young artists have joined this innovative, animal-free circus project characterized by music and the arts. So it was during this tour that Laliberté described the cast as Circus of the sunreferring to the fact that “The sun symbolizes youth, energy and strength”.
The tours began to expand to the rest of Canada in the following years and later to the United States, where they conquered major cities for the show such as Las Vegas in the 1990s. Europe, Asia and Latin America joined the public in the 2000s. But also more artists from all over the world joined the team, making Circus of the sun a multicultural company.
Currently, more than a thousand artists, from 55 different countries, work in the various shows offered by the company. Each individual show has around 100 artists, who have previously practiced sports disciplines such as rhythmic and acrobatic gymnastics.

Although this great show is already international in scope, it does not forget its Canadian roots, since the main hall of the Circus of the sun is located in Montreal, Quebec.
In this place, more than 400 specialists are in charge of creative ideas and collaborate to create the shows that are presented all over the world. Of course, they have the support of artisans and artists who help design the costumes, lighting and sets.
