This is due to the fact Ferrari will put its fourth engine of the season in the monagesco car, while the limit of authorized changes is three. Regularly this kind of penalty appears in the second half of the campaign, but the Italians suffered from the reliability of their engine block.
Leclerc had to leave the Azerbaijan GP who was winning hands down when his car started emitting smoke following a critical breakdown. A similar situation occurred in Spain, where he also retired.

The penalty makes Checo and Max Verstappen the big favorites to win this weekend. Ferrari will go out in a “damage limit” strategy and score as many points as possible.
The Mexican pilot will seek to prevent ‘MadMax’ escape him in the Drivers’ Championship. Right now the Dutchman is leading by 21 points, if the gap starts to widen, in the Red Bull they could prioritize the defending champion.
This will be Checo’s first race as a member of Red Bull in Canada, on his first day he struggled after finishing fourth and 11th in the first two sessions. This Saturday the ranking will take place at 3:00 p.m.
