The group, which was received the day before in this eastern city of Holguín, capital of the homonymous province, bears the name of a distinguished patriot born in this territory, will deploy an intense program organized according to the interests of the members of the brigade, and which will also cover the provinces of Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba.
For about 15 days they will share experiences in historical and heritage sites in the eastern part of Cuba such as Playitas de Cajobabo, the cemetery of Santa Ifigenia and the sanctuary of the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, the city of Baracoa and the communities struggling to gain access to Moa and Pinares de Mayarí, reported the Cuban News Agency.
They will also hold meetings in educational centers such as the University of Holguín and the University of Medical Sciences; with members of mass organizations and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, among other cultural institutions.
As is traditional in these solidarity groups, the members of this brigade will carry out volunteer work days and hand over donations, including school supplies and medical supplies, as a sign of support for the Cuban people in the face of the blockade by the United States. for more than six decades.
Welcoming them, Yunia Pérez Hernández, Deputy Governor of Holguín, thanked the participants for their courageous attitude in showing the world the bonds of solidarity that unite them to the island and especially to this region.
The Calixto García Brigade is a project promoted by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the peoples of this province.
Founded on November 29, 2018, the collective is made up of members of the Solidarity with Cuba Movement, trade unionists and fighters in favor of the Cuban revolutionary process who travel from Canadian demarcations such as Ontario, Alberta, Vancouver, Victoria and British Columbia.
