There Bev Priestman, Canadian women's soccer coachwas expelled from the Olympics due to accusations of spying with dronesafter two members of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion team's coaching staff were sacked from the tournament for using drones to spy on rivals New Zealand, whom they beat 2-1 on their Paris 2024 debut.
The coach, who decided not to sit on the bench in the first game as responsible for what happened, will not coach any games of the Games, leaving his position to Assistant Coach Andy Spenceafter the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) announced Friday that it had dismissed Priestman.
“Over the past 24 hours, additional information has been brought to our attention regarding the previous use of drones against adversaries“before the Paris Olympics,” announced Canada Soccer executive director Kevin Blue.
The leader explained that “in light of these new revelations” they decided “suspend the head coach of the women's football team for the remainder of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, until the completion of the independent external review” they had announced they would carry out.
