MADRID, October 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Canadian climber and time trialist Olivia Baril will race from January 1, 2024 as part of the Movistar team, as the telephone team announced this Monday in a press release.
“I really want to face this new adventure with Movistar Team, with the confidence that it is the right project to reach the highest level that I can give as a cyclist. I am sure that I made the right decision and that Movistar Team knows how to develop talents and provide the right conditions, both during and outside the race,” Baril said in statements to the Movistar Team press service.
For Olivia Baril, the Movistar Team is “a reference team in recent years”, particularly in the “big ones” and “in all types of stages”. Baril described Dutchwoman Annemiek van Vleuten as “the best”, although he believes that with the help of the team “everything was much less complicated”.
“I have shown that I have potential as a climber and stage tour rider, but I certainly don’t want to limit myself to that. I would like to become a real all-rounder, helping the team during road trials. “a day, whether on flat ground or with climbs, and above all, make a lot of progress in the time trial,” he said.
The Canadian assures that she does not want to be known simply as a “climber”. She said she and Movistar Team had “a lot of expectations” in 2024. “We are an ambitious team, we are going to give everything in both the classics and the stage events and in my case I want to participate in the two events of the Olympic Games (line and time trial), and I know that the Movistar team will help me to be able to give everything in Paris too,” he concluded.
The 25-year-old cyclist is the fifth addition to the Movistar team and will join the team led by Sebastián Unzué on January 1. Baril has just had a great year in 2024, winning the GP Eibar for the second consecutive year and winning a stage of the Tour de l’Ardèche (fourth position). In addition, the Canadian shone in two rounds of the WorldTour such as Itzulia (4th overall) and the Tour of Scandinavia (6th), and completed La Vuelta (19th) and the Tour de France.
