He Ambassador of Canada to MexicoGraeme C. Clark, confirmed that Canadian investors have expressed concern about the reform of the judicial system in Mexico which envisages the election of judges by popular vote.
Asked about the issue, the diplomat said the “bond of trust” between investors and the Mexican government could be affected.
“An investment is a sign of confidence,” he said at the Mexico-Canada business forum. CanCham Day 2024.
He stressed that the objective is to convey the concerns of Canadian private sector without interfering in the internal affairs of Mexico.
As a diplomat, I am very sensitive to any comments that could be considered interference in the affairs of Mexico and that is certainly not the goal,” Clark emphasized.
He stressed that his country would closely monitor the evolution of this judicial reform and its possible impact on bilateral relations and the investment environment in Mexico.
“It is the role of an embassy diplomat to follow the development of events and initiatives that could have an impact on us,” the ambassador concluded regarding the likely approval of judicial reform.
