Canadian Lucas Cavallini scored this Friday the goal with which the Xolos de Tijuana came from behind to draw 3-3 against Toluca on the twelfth day of the Mexican soccer tournament Clausura 2023.
Argentinians Lucas Rodríguez and Fernando Valenzuela were the other scorers for Tijuana, thirteenth in the standings with 12 points.
Uruguayan Maximiliano Araújo, twice, and Colombian Brayan Angulo converted for Toluca, second in the standings with 22 points.
Toluca prevailed in the first half against a disconnected Tijuana team in attack.
On their first shot on goal of the duel, Toluca opened the scoring. At minute 22, Chilean Jean Meneses, on the right, placed a delayed serve which Araújo headed in to make it 0-1.
Two minutes later, the Uruguayan increased his side’s lead when 24-year-old Brayan Angulo passed a pass to Araújo, who left-footed to make it 0-2.
Angulo made it 0-3 at 35, with a powerful shot into the box that hit goalkeeper Antonio Rodríguez’s left post and entered the Xolos goal.
In the second part the roles were exchanged, Toluca was passive and Tijuana took over the game.
At 47, the Brazilian Tiago Volpi, goalkeeper of Toluca, made a bad pass to a defender which allowed Rodríguez to steal the ball to make it 1-3.
The Xolos made it another 58, when Cavallini finished on goal, Volpi dismissed but left the ball in the box for Valenzuela to lead and make it 2-3.
Tijuana condemned the draw at 76. Argentinian Alexis Canelo entered the box and forced Volpi to shrink, but the Brazilian again left a loose ball which Cavallini now took advantage of to make it 3-3.
In another result, Necaxa beat Mazatlán FC 0-1, with a goal from Ricardo Monreal. The result places Rayos with 12 points in twelfth position.
Two hours earlier, Atlas had beaten Puebla 4-0, thanks to a goal from Colombian Julián Quiñones, an own goal from Uruguayan Gastón Silva and a brace from Uruguayan Brian Lozano.
Rojinegros reached 12 points and finished in eleventh place.
The twelfth day will resume this Saturday with the visit of San Luis to Cruz Azul, and the classics between the Tigres UANL and the leaders Rayados del Monterrey, and the Chivas del Guadalajara against the Águilas del América.
The games will end on Sunday when Pumas UNAM host champions Tuzos de Pachuca, Gallos Blancos de Querétaro against Juárez FC and León against Santos Laguna.
