Canadian authorities have confirmed the death of Mexican Carlos Tomás Aranda

Canadian authorities have confirmed that the lifeless body found in a lake matches that of the citizen of Mexican origin Carlos Tomas Aranda Burgoin.

The body recovered from Osoyoos Lake This August 22, 2023 corresponds to that of the young man of Mexican nationality, specified the Mounted Police Service it’s a statement.

According to reports, the 30-year-old from Oaxaca disappeared on July 7 after being last seen at the facility. Brar fruit stand and orchardin the province of British Columbia.

Osoyoos authorities continue to work with the British Columbia Coroners Service to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of Carlos Tomás.

After confirming his death, Canadian authorities presented their “deepest condolences to the family and friends of Carlos Tomás Aranda Burgoin.

For its part, the victim’s family requested on August 22 for help from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to settle again in Canada and actively participate in the recognition work, although the authorities of this country already had of a genetic profile.

It is expected that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide the necessary support to the family to repatriate the body of Carlos Tomás.

Carlos Tomás Aranda Burgoin, 30, is originally from Oaxaca, where he obtained his degree in development and tourism at the Autonomous University of Benito Juárez (UABJO) last June.

After completing his professional studies, Carlos traveled to Canada to work on a farm in Osoyoos, near the border with the United States.

According to his father, Octavio Aranda, the young man went to a meeting on July 7 with people from his work, but an argument broke out which forced him to leave the place where he was. Later, the young Mexican arrived at a hotel to ask the staff for help, but for some reason Carlos ran away in the middle of the night.

The disappearance of Carlos Tomás was reported to the organization Dignidad Migrante Society, which is dedicated to helping foreign workers in British Columbia.

A month after his mysterious disappearance in Canada, on August 7, Mexico’s Foreign Affairs Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, met with Carlos’ family to express the support of Mexican authorities.

After the meeting with the family of Carlos Tomás, the Mexican Minister of Foreign Affairs had a telephone call on August 8 with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly, during which both agreed to address this matter of interinstitutional manner.

With the town of Osoyoos located approximately 4 kilometers from Canada’s southern border with the United States, the help of Alejandro Mayorkas, US Secretary of Homeland Security, was requested to expand the tracking area.

During the weeks that the search lasted, various meetings took place between the authorities and people from the community. It should be noted that at all times the tasks were the responsibility of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

On August 14, Octavio Aranda Ortega and Ana María Burgoin Avilez, parents of Carlos Tomás, met with the Canadian Ambassador to Mexico, Graeme C. Clark, to reiterate their requests for help in finding him.

The Aranda family was accompanied by personnel from the North American Unit and the General Directorate of Consular Protection and Strategic Planning of the SRE, the agency reported.
