Canada's Sarah Mitton fails in Harry Jerome traditional shot put event in British Columbia

Canadian shot putter Sarah Mitton, who is heading to Paris, failed to secure her third straight victory on Saturday, losing by just 0.18 meters at the Harry Jerome Traditional in Burnaby, British Columbia.

The Olympic medal hopeful was beaten by Jamaica's Danniel Thomas-Dodd, who launched his 19-yarder on his second of six attempts at Swangard Stadium.

Thomas-Dodd was narrowly beaten by Mitton on Thursday at the Edmonton Athletics Invitational.

Mitton, a 27-year-old from Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, lowered her national women's record on May 11 with a world-best throw of 20.68 at a competition in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania. The world indoor champion has won eight of 13 events this year. exceeding 20 meters on four occasions.

The men's and women's hammer throw events, featuring Canadians Rowan Hamilton and Jillian Weir, will take place on Sunday at McLeod Stadium in Langley, British Columbia.

All Canadian athletes have until June 30 to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games. The Canadian Olympic Track and Field Trials begin June 26.
