Canada's banks, airports, hospitals and border crossings suffer Microsoft's fall

Toronto (Canada), July 19 (EFE).- Banks, emergency services, airports, hospitals, border crossings and airlines in Canada are suffering serious problems this Friday due to the computer outage generated in Microsoft's global services.

Porter Airlines, one of Canada's largest airlines, announced that it had to suspend all flights until at least noon due to a computer outage.

Toronto International Airport, Canada's largest, has warned that while other major Canadian airlines, such as Air Canada and West Jet, have been able to maintain service, U.S. airlines operating out of the Canadian city are suffering serious problems and are causing widespread delays.

In Toronto, several hospitals also reported difficulties and warned that patients could face delays. The city's fire department was forced to use alternate systems after their systems failed Friday morning.

Services at TD Bank, the country's second-largest bank, are also down due to problems with Microsoft's Azure cloud, caused when the company Crowdstrike updated a cybersecurity component of the system.

The Canadian Banking Association tried to calm the population by saying in a statement that the national banking system “is well protected” and that the impact on services “will be temporary.”

On the other hand, border crossings between Canada and the United States are experiencing serious delays. EFE
