OTTAWA.- Canada to send 39 armored vehicles manufactured by General Dynamics to Ukraine later this summer to help Kyiv defend against Russian invasion, Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said Thursday.
The so-called Armored Combat Support Vehicle, manufactured at a General Dynamics plant based in London, Ontario, it can be used as an ambulance, maintenance and recovery vehicle, or to transport troops.
It is part of a military support
The fleet to be dispatched, announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the end of the NATO summit in Madrid last week, is part of a C$500 million military support to Ukraine, that was outlined in Canada’s budget in April.
Anand told reporters that the agreement on armored vehicles for Ukraine joins separate multi-million dollar contract for 360 vehicles for the Canadian Armed Forces which was negotiated with General Dynamics Land Systems in 2019.
These 39 vehicles will begin shipping this summer, with the remaining 360 also continuing to be delivered over the coming months. »
