Canada to honor Elizabeth II with memorial parade and mass at Ottawa Cathedral

MADRID, Sep 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Canada will bid farewell to Queen Elizabeth II with a memorial parade and mass at Christ Church Cathedral in Ottawa on a day that authorities have designated as a public holiday.

Deeds in memory of the monarch, who died ten days ago at the age of 96 and after 70 years of reign, will also be marked by the flight of “CF-18” model fighter jets, according to the BBC.

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II witnessed great moments in our history and touched the lives of many Canadians. The commemorative ceremony we are preparing will be dignified and warm, like Her Majesty the Queen,” said Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez.

Similarly, in Toronto, Canada’s largest city, public transport will stop for 96 seconds as a sign of respect for the monarch.

COMMEMORATIVE EVENTS IN AUSTRALIA

By contrast, in Australia, major television channels will broadcast the monarch’s funeral live with special coverage. In Melbourne, it will be projected on a giant screen in Federation Square.

Australian authorities have declared Thursday a day of national mourning, during which a minute of silence will be observed in memory of the Queen.
