Ottawa. – Thousands of people in Canada experienced a massive internet and phone outage on Friday when Rogers Communications Inc, one of the country’s largest carriers, reported a network outage.
The problem shifted to financial institutions, as the Bank of Montreal (BMO) and Royal Bank of Canada revealed that their successors had problems with ATMs and online banking, among other things.
“We can confirm that there is an ongoing Rogers outage affecting all financial institutions and disrupting Interac services, BMO toll-free numbers and transaction processing. Efforts are being made to resolve this issue as soon as possible,” BMO replied to a concerned user.
On the other hand, Interac, operator of the email money transfer service used by several Canadian banks, said that its services also had some flaws, the same case with the Toronto-Dominion Bank.
Curiously, and in an attempt to complete their various slopes, those affected by this fall had to go out into the streets to look for a wireless signal and found it in Starbucks, establishments that were crowded.
In Toronto, the country’s largest city and one of Rogers’ main markets, hundreds of people use the city’s open subway system to access the Internet.
In 2021, Rogers suffered another massive outage that the company blamed on a software update issue.
Rogers Communications Inc has approximately 10 million wireless subscribers and 2.25 million retail Internet subscribers.
