Canadians Félix Auger-Aliassime and Vasek Pospisil beat the Spanish pair of Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez 4-6, 6-4 and 7-5, after coming back in a great match that gave the victory to the northern team -American and which obliges Spain to beat South Korea next Sunday to qualify for the final phase of the Davis Cup in Malaga.
The Spanish duo could not have started the decisive match of this confrontation better, breaking the service of Félix Auger-Aliassime, still swollen with emotion after his spectacular victory against Carlos Alcaraz half an hour earlier.
However, the Spaniards’ pulse quivered to close out the game and Canada earned the break when Pedro Martínez served to win. At 5-5, it was now Team North America who saw victory come one step closer after the emotional injection that staying in the game meant. Pospisil didn’t fail to serve and finished Spain with another break.

Carlos Alcaraz created in Valencia his new status as world number one in tennis against Félix Auger-Aliassime and in this match he had the opportunity to certify in front of his public the mathematical classification as the first of the group for the final phase of the Davis Cup, but the Canadian, who signed a spectacular match, was able to come back and win the duel 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2, after 2 hours and 50 minutes of play.
All the motivation that Auger-Aliassime lacked in his first match of this phase against the South Korean Kwon, the Canadian found himself facing the world number one.
Bautista gives Spain first point
The Castellón player added a valuable victory that brings Sergi Bruguera’s men closer to the final stage to be played in late November in Malaga, and relieved Carlos Alcaraz’s debut against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second game. To do that, it took courage for him to get rid of a rival who was playing at a very good level and who didn’t even provide accommodations as he suffered physical problems at the start of the third round.
