Holy Sunday.- Canada defeated Puerto Rico in three sets on Thursday to inflict its fourth straight loss in the Final Six of the Pan American Volleyball Cup being held in Santo Domingo.
The Canadians dominated the match in straight sets, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19.
The defeat left the Puerto Ricans with no chance of qualifying for the semi-finals to be played this Friday.
On Thursday’s marathon day, the Puerto Rican team lost in a previous game to Mexico, also in straight sets.
Puerto Rico still has a match against the Dominican Republic, which should have taken place last Tuesday, when the tournament was paralyzed due to the passage of Tropical Storm Franklin.
Jasmine Rivest led the Canadian offense with 15 points, including nine on offense and six on serve; Nyadholi Thokbuom was second with 14 points, while Raya Surinx finished with 12 points.
For Puerto Rico, Norian Ceballos Plaza stood out, with 14 points, and Sofía Alejandra Vega López, who scored four goals.
Canada dominated the three main lines of the game. In attack, he concluded 42-20; on block 6-2, while serving 13-6.
