Toronto (Canada), June 6 (EFE) enter the country, they will no longer need this travel document.
Canada’s new travel rules also apply to people from these countries who have a valid visa to enter the United States.
Instead of the visa, citizens of these Latin American countries, along with nine others from the rest of the world, will only need an electronic travel authorization (eTA), a document that is obtained online and costs seven Canadian dollars (5 US dollars).
Travelers with eTA will be able to stay in the country for tourism or business for up to six months.
Until now, among Latin American countries, only citizens of Chile and Mexico were exempt from the visa requirement.
Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said in a statement that the move will make it “faster, easier and more affordable” for thousands of people to travel to Canada.
Fraser added that the elimination of entry visas for some of the citizens of these countries “will contribute to the growth of Canada’s economy by further facilitating international travel, tourism and business.”
Those traveling to Canada by land or sea, or who are unable to obtain an eTA, will still need a visa to enter the country.
