León (Mexico), July 3 (EFE).- The Canadian basketball team won the Puerto Rican’s undefeated record at the 2023 Women’s AmeriCup on Monday, beating her 84-47 on the third day of Group B of the competition.
Aaliyah Edwards led the North Americans in scoring with 14 points, plus three rebounds and five assists. Mya Hollingshed and Jennifer O’Neill were the best in Puerto Rico with 10 units each.
The result puts Canada second in Group A with two wins in as many games; the Caribbean are first with a score of 2-1.
Canada outplayed Puerto Rico with input from their bench and on-the-key dominance that earned them 38 points. They also had better aim in the field goals than their rivals.
Earlier on Monday, Colombia picked up their first win as they beat the Dominican Republic 70-56 to move into third place in Group B with a record of one win and one loss.
Jenifer Muñoz was the top forward for the Colombians with 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Cesarina Capellan stood out for the Dominican with 14 points, seven rebounds and an assist.
The Dominicans are yet to win in the three games they have played in the tournament and are on the verge of elimination.
The Group B duels will continue this Tuesday with the Canada-Colombia and Mexico-Puerto Rico duels.
Earlier on Monday, Venezuela beat Cuba 106-85 and Brazil beat Argentina 56-55, in Group A activity.
The Brazilians lead their sector in being undefeated in three games, in second place are the United States with a 2-0 record; the South Americans and the North Americans will face off this Tuesday. In addition to this duel, Argentina will challenge Cuba.
In addition to the medals for the first three places, the AmeriCup 2023, which is held in León, in central Mexico, distributes two places at the Pre-Olympic World Games in Paris 2024.
