Davies leads this group of ambitious players.
The selection of Canada signed his return to a World Cup finals 36 years later thanks to his unexpected rebellion in the Concacaf zone, in which he beat the usual dominators, the United States and Mexico. Canadian team coach John Herdman is ready to reward the block of players who clinched Canada’s historic qualification for Qatar 2022. Since taking office in 2018, he has been rewarding those who have propelled the rise of this team.
A success that materialized in March of this year when the team led by Herdman finished in first place in the octagonal CONCACAF Championship which decided which North and Central American teams will make it to the 2022 World Cup, beating normally unreachable rivals and putting the country into its second final stage after Mexico 1986, where he lost all his matches without scoring a single goal. The hard core of players who make up the “Herdman brotherhood” start in goal with veteran Milan Borjan. Of Serbo-Croatian origin, he has been playing since 2017 for Red Star Belgrade, the team of which he is captain, and only his physical problems at 35 could make him not one of his keys.
The Canadian defense in Qatar will be based on Richie Laryea, Samuel Adekugbe, Alistair Johnston, Scott Kennedy, Steven Vitoria, Doneil Henry and Kamal Miller. In the center of the field, there is also a series of players who are stationary in the Herdman scheme. Canada’s main midfielders are Stephen Eustaquio, Jonathan Osorio, Atiba Hutchinson, Mark-Anthony Kaye and Samuel Piette. The front four have been constants in Herdman’s lineups while Piette is a more specialized player who is used by the Canadian coach in a more destructive role.
Endpoints are also given names: Alphonse Davies, Tajon Buchanan and Junior Hoilett. Davies, on the left wing. The first is the big star of the Canadiens. The player, born 21 years ago in Ghana, excelled at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, where he became one of the best footballers in the Old Continent thanks to his capacity for deployment, audacity, skill and arrival. And finally Canada’s attack in Qatar will rely on Jonathan David, Cyle Larin and Lucas Cavallini. David is the author of nine of the 23 goals that the Canadian team has scored in the octagon.
