Canada on Saturday (03.05.2022) asked its citizens to avoid traveling to Russia or leaving that country if they are there because of the war that Moscow has started in Ukraine.
In an update to its travel advice, the Department of Foreign Affairs advised Canadians “to avoid all travel to Russia due to the repercussions of the armed conflict in Ukraine, including the limited availability of air connections and restrictions on financial transactions”.
“We have increased the risk level to prevent all travel to #Russia. If you are there, you must leave while commercial means are still available,” Ottawa tweeted.
Canada, which has already taken numerous economic sanctions against Russia, “will continue to punish Putin and the oligarchs” to make them understand their “monumental error”, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Friday.
Trudeau announced Friday that he will be touring Europe on Sunday. According to the planned route, he will first travel to London, before traveling to Riga, Berlin and Warsaw to discuss support for Ukraine.
In the statement, Canada warned its citizens that “flight availability is becoming extremely limited (as well as) our embassy’s ability to provide consular services in Russia,” Foreign Affairs Canada said in a travel advisory. .
