Camarasa Celebrates a New Strikers Ranxo and Claims Healing Time

Camarasa once again commemorated the Canadian strike with the Rancho de los Huelguistas, on the 104th anniversary of one of the most important social conquests in history: the achievement of the 8-hour working day. A working class success that began in the commune of Noguerenc and spread throughout the country until it was acquired.

The Ranxo, a large bowl and stew, which was the food of the strikers at the time, had the participation of the Minister of Equality and Feminism, Tània Verge, who visited the municipality and the main places, ending the visit to the point where the traditional dishes were cooked, of which almost 500 portions were distributed. The Minister underlined that this demand is a “pride of the country, since it has made us progress on labor rights, which are also human rights”.

In this sense, the mayor of Camarasa, Elisabet Lizaso Cantón, also affirmed that for the municipality “it honors us, it is part of the history of Catalonia, being the spark that triggered this strike and that demonstrated that all together and united, we can take any step despite the repression”.

In addition, Tània Verge pointed out that there is still a long way to go: “We have a work program to pursue social and feminist transformation, which continues with the investigation | search for well-being that the strikers of Camarasa started all over the country”. In this sense, the counselor considers that the “triangle of 8 hours of work, 8 hours of rest and 8 hours of sleep, especially for women, does not suit us, because it is excluded from the work of priests”. For this reason, Virgen points out, we must ensure that this dimension of care is part of everyday life, as it is essential for the sustainability of life. »

Tània Verge launched the commitment made by her department and public co-responsibility in providing this precious time to families with the “Tiempo de Curas” program that has been deployed throughout the territory and is committed to the childcare service of children in toy libraries and other public establishments, outside school hours. Everything, Verge points out, “so that families, and especially women, have more time for their well-being, to rest, train or work in peace”.
