Honduras will implement a partial state of exception in several regions starting this Tuesday

The Secretary of Security through the Honduran National Police issued a statement on Tuesday relating to the state of emergency, the principles of necessity and inevitable proportionality to maintain security, order and peace.

Various areas of Honduras will be under a “partial state of exception” for 30 days starting Dec. 6, the country’s security secretary said in a statement on Saturday.

According to the press release from the Secretary of Security, the sectors that will be subject to the state of emergency have been previously analyzed and stand out for their “criminal incidence” and other factors “oriented towards the treatment of the scourge of extortion and related offences”. “

The measure also aims – according to the statement – to promote “the progressive activity of economic development, investment, trade and security in public spaces”.

The measure will affect 162 neighborhoods and neighborhoods in Valle de Sula and Central District, Honduras, the security secretary said in statements on Monday.

Honduran President Xiomara Castro declared a national security emergency on Nov. 24 to launch what she called a “war on extortion” in the Central American country.

After a meeting with the police leadership, where the Global Plan for Dealing with Extortion and Related Crimes was launched, the President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, asked the authorities to recommend that municipal governments implement a partial state of emergency and to suspend the constitutional guarantees in places that justify it.

“U.S. citizens are reminded to carry proper identification at all times, to comply with all local laws, and to follow police directions. U.S. citizens who are arrested overseas should request to speak to the nearest embassy or consulate as soon as possible,” the U.S. Embassy in Honduras said in a statement Monday.
