The Brazilian government announced on Monday that will need a visa again for the entry into the country of citizens of United States, Australia, Canada and Japanto a measure which will enter into force on the next October 23reported the South American giant’s foreign ministry.
The measure “was taken after consultationto these four countries to contemplate thepossibility of granting visa exemptions“to Brazilian travelers in”respect for the principle of reciprocity“, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release.
In March 2019, the government of the now ex-president Jair Bolsonaro “It violated the standard of Brazilian migration policy, historically based on the principles of reciprocity and equal treatment,” the ministry said.
Bolsonaro, who did not apply the principle of reciprocity of his predecessors, repeal the visa requirement for the citizens of these four countries, without the same paywith the argument of facilitating tourism and business.
“Brazil does not grant a unilateral visit visa exemption without reciprocity,” stressed the Foreign Ministry, which said that regardless of the current decision, it will continue to “negotiate” with these four countries “on reciprocal visa waiver agreements”.
From October 23, when the regulations come into force, the electronic visa modality will be adopted again, which was used until 2019 for these countries.
