Boycott? Venezuela have problems playing against Canada in the FIBA window

The Venezuelan national basketball team is set to be one of the biggest news amid this new qualifying window towards the discipline’s World Cup.

Precisely, one of the two rivals that the Dominican Republic will have to face this week, after a first meeting against Argentina this Thursday at the Palacio de los Deportes.

The Venezuelans had on their agenda to visit the Canadian team this Thursday in the city of Edmonton, but it turns out that the leaders of the Venezuelan Basketball Federation itself, as well as the sports authorities of this country, denounced that the North American country had not responded to visa requests so that the delegation could arrive on its territory.

It should be noted here that in all the immigration measures in force on Canadian soil, there is an obligation to process a visa for all citizens of Venezuelan origin, which has also been implemented in many other countries in this area.

From the FVB high command, they reported that this process had started in due time, with their federal colleagues in Canada, apparently in a normal way and without any inconvenience; It should be noted that the visa application was made directly to the Canadian consulate in Bogotá, Colombia.

But, the Canadian government authorities did not give their approval to this procedure, which left the Venezuelan delegation in suspense, and now they await a possible decision from FIBA concerning the match of this Thursday, being the one of the delivery options lost to Canadians.

However, the option of rescheduling the game to at least two days later was also being considered, giving time to resolve the visa issue, but this could also affect the already established itinerary for the Venezuelans to face their next game against the Dominicans. .

At the last moment it became known that the North American authorities were able to approve a number of 10 visa applications for players, to then try to arrive in their territory, but with very little time before the scheduled game start time in Edmonton.

Regardless of what happens, it could result in Canadians facing the same treatment that Venezuelans have received in this process during the upcoming February window, as a retaliatory measure, affecting logistics and sports planning. .
