Washington.- The president of the United States, Joe Bidenwill travel to Canada on the 23rd and 24th of this month to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and address that country’s Parliament, in a visit that will focus on the war in Ukraine and other regional challenges such as the instability in Haiti.
This was explained in a statement by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre on Thursday.
The visit to Ottawa by the President and First Lady, Jill Biden, aims to strengthen the alliance between the United States and Canada, as well as to promote their common interests in security and economy, among others.
With Trudeau, Biden plans to talk about supporting Ukraine against the Russian invasion and how to contain the negative effects the war is having on the world, the White House explained.
They will also talk about the fight against the climate crisis, in addition to regional challenges such as the instability in Haiti and the large migratory flows that the American continent is experiencing.
Likewise, Trudeu and Biden will talk about how to modernize the North American Aerospace Defense Command (Norad), which is in charge of air traffic control for the United States and Canada, and which has recently been involved in the shooting down of several flying objects whose origin was not specified.
The demolition of these objects, which fell in both the United States and Canada, came after American authorities shot down a “spy” balloon in early February which hovered over their territory for several days and which, according to China, was part of a civilian mission in search of meteorological data.
Finally, Biden will address the Canadian Parliament as a sign of the importance of bilateral relations between the United States and Canada, the White House noted.
Biden and Trudeu last saw each other in Mexico in January at the Summit of North American Leaders, popularly known as the “Three Friends” and also attended by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
