Beginning of the Mexico-EU-Canada trinational agricultural meeting

COAHUILA, October 18, 2022.- At the start of the Mexico-EU-Canada “Trinational Agricultural Agreement” meeting in Coahuila, the head of Sader, Víctor Villalobos Arámbula and the Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock of Sinaloa and President of The AMSDA, engineer José Jaime Montes Salas agreed on the need to work to provide our countries and the world with healthy, safe and accessible food.

According to a press release, according to the program, the representatives of the three countries will develop an intense agenda with working meetings in which very relevant issues related to the agricultural activity of their respective nations will be presented.

The head of the Sayg of Sinaloa and the Mexican Association of Secretaries of Agriculture -AMSDA- is the head of the Mexican representation at the event that will take place this Tuesday October 19 and tomorrow Wednesday October 20 in this entity.

The official inauguration of the tri-national event was entrusted to the Governor of Coahuila, Miguel Angel Riquelme, who offered the best conditions for

carry out this international activity which seeks, like its government, to produce more and better agricultural food.

Virtually, Víctor Villalobos, Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (SADER) of Mexico, Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agrifood of Canada and Tom Vilsack, Secretary of Agriculture of the United States, delivered their respective messages to the Secretaries Farmers of the three countries.

This Tuesday, José Jaime Montes Salas, Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock of Sinaloa, President of AMSDA and Head of the Mexican Delegation, together with José María Fraustro Siller, Municipal President of Saltillo, Coahuila, pronounced the word greeting and the opening message of the event. , respectively to the representatives of the Mexican, American and Canadian authorities.

According to the program, Derek Johnson, Minister of Agriculture of Manitoba and head of the Canadian delegation and Doug Miyamoto, director of the Department of Agriculture of Wyoming, president of the NASDA and head of the American delegation, will make their respective exhibitions on the subject.

Montes Salas, in his message, called on everyone to aim high for the production of the most basic thing that man possesses, which is food, but it is necessary to resort to scientific tools to achieve this goal and to resort to – in-depth studies to move towards an agro-productive economy favoring life and then money.

The chairman of the country’s agricultural secretaries says that by saving us a few steps in eliminating weeds in the land, as we did before glyphosates existed, we are not going to risk our health of our customers.

He insisted that “we cannot risk health by using toxic products which, although they are considered safe, are not proven, because it has been said here what are the side effects not yet discovered “.

The Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock of Sinaloa explained that we must move towards agroecological agriculture in line with the 2020-30 agenda, as we are doing in our states.

He clarified that in Sinaloa, Mexico, we are installing agroecological beacons with people who have spent many years producing crops or foods without chemical synthesis, which we can achieve since it is scientifically proven. “We can insure it because we did it; we can produce food without harmful agrochemicals”.

Finally, before the Secretaries of Agriculture of Mexico, the United States and Canada, Montes Salas considered that we must direct all actions to continue prioritizing the most fundamental thing, which is to seek food as healthy as possible for our people.

For his part, the head of the Sader Víctor Villalobos recounted the actions that have been carried out between the countries gathered in this trinational meeting, which in addition to being partners “we are friendly and allied countries that share borders and face to environmental, social and economic problems”.

He pointed out that the North American region has one of the most powerful instruments of global trade, such as the free trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada, which as a bloc is one of the main sources of reliable food supply for the whole world. due to our port location and our logistics networks, which allow us to reach the whole world with healthy, safe and accessible food.
