Fernando Alonso applauds Lance Stroll’s attitude as a teammate. The Spaniard assures that the Canadian always thinks for the good of Aston Martin, quite the contrary in the case of Esteban Ocon. Last year, in Alpine, the Frenchman always saw him as his main enemy and it’s never something positive for a team to work on.
Alonso gives the example of Baku as a good way to work with his teammates. At the Azerbaijan GP, Stroll made it clear that he was not going to attack the Spaniard, as it was only a matter of time before they caught up with their rivals. For the Spaniard, it’s the best way to work together and for the good of the team.
With this detail, Alonso does not forget everything that happened last year with Ocon, who was extremely aggressive with him in certain races such as Jeddah, Hungary or Brazil. The Spaniard argues that today in Formula 1, if your partner is your biggest rival, it’s not something beneficial for the team. More so, if the fight between the two ends in touch as it has already happened in Interlagos.
“Lance is a driver who thinks like a teammate, as we have already seen in Baku. Last year, the opposite happened to me. I’ve always been my team-mate’s first target and that’s obviously something that doesn’t benefit the team at all,” Alonso admitted in an interview with Sky Sports.
The team-mate relationship between Alonso and Stroll at Aston Martin started very well. Both drivers have understood their position within the team well and are working together to keep moving forward and keeping up with the best teams on the grid in all aspects. The feeling so far this year has been really good, with four podiums in the first five races.
