La Clásica de Almería 2023 had as a great novelty the celebration of its first female edition. With a course of 137 kilometers between Puebla de Vícar and Vera, the first women’s classic took place on February 11 with the victory of Emilie Fortin.
The Almeria race brought together 18 teams from all over the world, including three from the premier category UCI WOMEN’S WORLDTEAMS in which riders such as Veronica Ewers, Arlenis Sierra, Floortje Mackaij or Alison Jackson stood out.
Mackaij, who was emerging as one of the big favorites for the final victoryGiven her strength and top speed, as well as her track record in one-day races, she eventually finished third, beaten in the group sprint by the other big favorite, Canadian champion EF Education – TIBCO – SVB Alison Jackson. Both accompanied Fortin on the podium, the solo winner at the Vera finish line.

The second classified of the Clásica de Almería became this weekend the winner of Paris – Roubaix, the mythical French classic, one of the five monuments of world cycling and which is for many the most important one-day race in the world . After a great performance in the 2022 edition which materialized in thirteenth place, the Canadian rider won the victory in her third participation in Roubaix, beating her breakaway companions on her legendary velodrome. The win puts Alison Jackson in a special place in cycling history, alongside the sport’s greatest, also giving Canada the first win in the more than 100-year history of Paris–Roubaix.
There is no doubt that all the inhabitants of Almería who have been able to enjoy the passage of the Clásica de Almería through the municipalities of Vícar, Benahadux, Garrucha, Huércal de Almería, Rioja, Sorbas, Tabernas, Turre, Uleila del Campo,
Viator and Vera will remember the moment they saw cobblestone queen Alison Jackson racing.
