The Passion according to Saint John

For the first time, this work will be performed on a large scale, as it has the participation of 50 artists on stage. It is one of the most important works of the sacred music repertoire, which will be performed by the Higinio Ruvalcaba Chamber Orchestra, the Municipal Choir of Zapopan and the Baroque Ensemble, under the direction of Raúl Moncada and with instruments of time.

The oratorio based on chapters 18 and 19 of the Gospel of Saint John, premiered on Good Friday 1724 in Leipzig, Germany. Through recitatives, arias, choirs and chorales, the musical drama recounts the Passion of Christ from the Last Supper, his trial and crucifixion to his death and burial. This concert is traditionally given in places and churches around the world, the day before or during Holy Week.
