ACS wins contract in Canada on $500 million rail expansion

Madrid, June 19 (EFECOM).- The ACS Group, through its subsidiary Dragados, and in alliance with Ledcor, has won a first contract for the extension of the Go line rail services in Ontario (Canada) in a project of approximately 500 million euros (730 million Canadian dollars).

The two companies will work on the nearly 20 km Lakeshore East line in the town of Bowmanville.

The infrastructure planning contract at this early stage will support the nearly 20 kilometer expansion project, which includes new roads and signage, seven new bridges and upgrades to level crossings, according to official data.

Ontario is investing to extend Lakeshore East’s GO Line beyond Durham Region, providing rail service to Bowmanville.

With nearly 17,000 daily trips and 4.9 million annual trips expected by 2041, expanding service in Bowmanville will connect many commuters to their workplaces, reduce commute times in the area, combat congestion, spur economic growth and bring more jobs to the province.

In this sense, Premier Doug Ford indicated that the largest expansion of public transit in North America will reduce congestion, shorten travel times and improve the movement of people and goods throughout the province.

The Bowmanville Extension is part of an expansion program for GO Line rail service on the Lakeshore East line and aims to provide 15-minute all-day service each way between Oshawa and Union Station and weekday service every 30 minutes between Bowmanville and Union Station.

The plan comes in preparation for the 19,000 people the province expects to live within 800 meters of a station along the extension line by 2041.
