ACS will build a tram line in Calgary (Canada) for 3,700 million euros

ACS has been awarded a new contract in Canada for the construction of a new light rail line in the city of Calgary starting next year and for a period of 16 months, which represents the largest contract in the history of this city, valued at 5,500 million Canadian dollars (3,700 million euros).

The winning consortium is made up of Flatiron, one of the American subsidiaries of ACS, Barnard Constructors, WSP Canada and EllisDon, who competed in the final phase another consortium made up of AccionaAecom, Parsons and Dragados –a construction company also belonging to the ACS group–.

It is an 18 kilometer light rail line with 13 stations and some tunnels, since the train also has will travel underground for 2 kilometersas well as 9 bridges, three large park-and-ride lots and a maintenance building for parking trains.

CAF, the train and bus manufacturer based in Beasain (Guipúzcoa), also won the contract in November 2021 for the supply of 28 light trains, with an option for 24 additional units, for 300 million euros, for this line.

The unit belongs to the CAF tram platform, called Urbos, and will have seven modules over its 42 meter length. With a capacity of 288 passengers, where 73 can sit, Its design will provide safety and comfort to users, also highlighting the accessibility of the vehicle and its habitability as another of its main features.
