A Mexican people unite to build their destiny in “The Great Seduction”

Mexico City, August 30 (EFE).- The film “La gran seducción”, by Mexican director Celso García, premieres this Wednesday on Netflix with the message “of the union of peoples and how they build their destiny together” , according to what he said the filmmaker in an interview with EFE.

“One of the most beautiful messages in history is to see the union of people, how they form a community and how together they build their destiny day by day and how things change,” said García, who also co-wrote the screenplay.

The director, recognized for his work in films such as “The thin yellow line” (2015) or “La leche y el agua” (2007), shared his view of Mexico and its communities, emphasizing that the greatest strength and the great attraction of the country and its peoples is its culture.

The film tells the story of the fictional town of Santa María del Mar, with only 120 inhabitants, who must persuade a doctor from the town to stay, a crucial decision that will allow them to materialize the construction of a packaging factory.

This village, led by Germán, played by Memo Villegas, will do everything possible to make Mateo, played by Pierre Louis, decide to stay, using a big constructed lie to change the fate of a village.

“There is then an ethical and moral dilemma, about how ok it is to deceive someone and tell lie after lie to change people’s destiny,” the director reflected.

The film’s producer, Nicolás Celis, known for his work in films such as “Roma” (2018) or “Tempest” (2016), remarked that this is not a typical romantic comedy, but of a film about love of home and community. . .

“This project was born 20 years ago, when I saw the Canadian ‘La Grande Séduction’ (2013) which marked me a little. It moved me, moved me and reminded me of the simplicity and importance of small things and small gestures,” said Célis.

UNITY IS STRENGTH

In much the same way the city comes together to persuade the doctor to stay, García also stressed the need to work with “an incredible cast and ensemble.”

“Working with this cast was a pleasure, a delight to work on set with Yalitza Aparicio (…) who was doing comedy for the first time in his career and who had the opportunity to work with Memo Villegas and Pierre Louis, and with an incredible cast and choir,” he said.

The producer also pointed out that this story reflects the importance of unity and how, working together, they faced adversity.

“I think ‘The Great Seduction’ ended up being a very special movie for me because I feel like all the time we’re bombarded with bad news coming into the country and ‘The Great Seduction’ is everything. the opposite, what we face, these adversities, how we come together,” he added.

GREAT MEXICAN CULTURE

The film, shot near Mexico City, in an area called Valle de Bravo and on a dam called Villa Victoria, exalts the great Mexican culture through emotional moments.

“Before, people with resources left Mexico on vacation, choosing to go to the United States or Europe as a symbol of success, but for years we have turned to what is ours and what is ours, like the food or the clothes, which unites us in the cultural part”, declared the producer.

García explained that they seek to bring their “little grain” so that Mexicans realize that in their culture there are answers to everything and solutions to any problem.
