Cartagena’s sea of music will have Canada as guest country. A multicultural country that is a benchmark worldwide for its support of culture in general, and musical artists in particular. The festival, which celebrates its 28th edition this year, will take place from July 14 to 22 and will publish its full program at the end of March.
This was jointly announced by the Mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, and the Canadian Ambassador to Spain, Wendy Drukierat a meeting they both held at the headquarters of the Canadian Embassy in Madrid, where they were accompanied by the Counselor for Tourism, Cristina Perez and the political counselor of the Canadian Embassy, Christophe Berzins,
“Canada made a pioneering decision in the world in 1971: the adoption of the multiculturalism as state policy. More than 45 years later, Cultural diversity is one of the characteristics of the North American country. A cultural diversity that we show every year at La Mar de Músicas to our audience, so we couldn’t have found a better travel companion,” commented Cartagena Mayor Noelia Arroyo.
“Canadian multiculturalism has focused from its origins on integration of cultures brought by migrants arriving in Canada Its roots come from all over the world. Over 200 languages are spoken in Canada. Its cultural fabric is alive and varied, stitched together by many cultures and heritages. Its indigenous, colonial influences and those that brought migrants from other origins, this is what we are going to show in Cartagena,” added Arroyo.
“In our festival there will be groups that come from Canada, even if they seem to come from Africa, Latin America or any other part of the world. This is its greatness and this is how we are going to make it known. At a time when xenophobic rhetoric is on the rise, Canada is an example of integration and respect for the culture of others,” concluded Arroyo.
The festival will take place from July 14 to 22, 2023 and the lineup will be announced at the end of March.
