MEXICO CITY, January 6 (EL UNIVERSAL). – The governments of Mexico, the United States and Canada will address issues of migration, development, security, climate change and health, among others, at the upcoming X Summit of North American Leaders to be held the week next, reported the Secretary of External Relations, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon.

“Of course, security, how can we make our region safer? Each country has its priorities and views,” he said.

During the presentation of the agenda for the summit and bilateral meetings with the President of the United States, Joe Biden, and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, Foreign Affairs Minister Ebrard announced that the instruction of the President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is to emphasize a new stage for the region that can potentially be extended to the rest of the Americas, based on reciprocity, mutual respect and a common vision.

“It contributes to the prosperity and well-being of North America and the Americas; reducing poverty and advancing inclusion, respecting youth, women and the disadvantaged,” he said.

The Chancellor added that the meeting will also address issues of diversity, equity and inclusion, climate change and the environment.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined that at the end of the bilateral meeting between Mexico and the United States, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Grégoire, will arrive at the National Palace. After a salute, a dinner will take place between the heads of state of Mexico, the United States and Canada, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Joe Biden and Justin Trudeau. The wives of the presidents will also be present at the dinner.

The agenda will continue on Tuesday, January 10 at 11:30 a.m., when President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are expected to arrive at the National Palace.

“We are going to have the reception ceremony and what we call a family photo, with which the North American trilateral summit begins,” reported Marcelo Ebrard.

Then a working lunch will take place in which the delegations of the three countries will be present and later the trilateral meeting.

A greeting is planned and at 11:15 a.m. the bilateral meeting between Mexico and Canada will begin.
