With the presence of the director and the producer, the film selected from more than two thousand candidates was presented internationally, in the performance of his dutiesby Jorge Gaggero.
“It’s always nice to go back to Cuba”the director expressed with joy. “It’s a very strong and current story, about a tragic event that claimed the lives of ten civil servants due to arson. It’s a story of anonymous heroes who, in this case, are not not returned home due to an unworthy act. This full of anger and at the same time thrills the fight of the relatives in their search for the truth”deepens the Argentine filmmaker.
February 5, 2014. Seven firefighting teams go to the Barracas neighborhood, south of the city of Buenos Aires. The Iron Mountain hangar that protects the banking records of large corporations and corporations burns in flames. During the first minutes of the operation, a deadly landslide was triggered, resulting in the deaths of seven firefighters and two members of the Civil Defence. Two days of national mourning are declared. Across the property, still on fire, government authorities and relatives of the victims scour the rubble for explanations.
The hypothesis of an accidental origin of the fire is quickly confronted with the first clues and testimonies of the survivors. The history of the company with global reach had already suffered claims in the United States, England, Canada and Italy, in 5 of these cases its intentionality was demonstrated. Twenty-nine (29) companies under investigation for money laundering retained their banking records in the damaged warehouse, including Iron Mountain itself.
The first tests confirm that the fire was intentional. The company that received a tax exemption did not have the appropriate authorization and all the files with the proof of these irregularities disappear. What were these sinister boxes hiding? What responsibilities did the political power have in the event and what relations did they have with the companies involved?
Accompanying the victims in their quest for justice, with never-before-shown evidence and documents, actress Cecilia Roth recounts a chilling conspiracy of vested interests and corruption that spans money laundering on a global scale and remains to be seen. this day unpunished.
“The promoter of our presence here today is Cecilia Roth, who was unable to accompany us due to a domestic accident, she was and is an activist in this film, and also has a deep political and human relationship with the Cuban people”explains producer Renato Miari.
The show was accompanied by firefighters from the city of Havana who expressed their solidarity with their presence. “Heroic, human, this emotion that comes from the soul”They expressed their gratitude at the end of the screening. “What we have just seen encourages us to be more and more human, and it is important to raise awareness of the work of firefighters for the good of Humanity” they said.
The film participated in the LATIN AMERICA IN PERSPECTIVE section of the 43rd International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana.
The project includes a tour of the various Latin American countries, the screening of the film and its opening in February 2023 in Argentina.
