The double world champion is the one who has rotated the most in the first part of the events which take place in the yas marina circuit two days after the close of the 2022 season on this same track with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, an appointment in which the Asturian ended his stage with Alpine with his sixth abandonment of the course as he fought for points.
At the end of the Abu Dhabi race, after yet another, but final, disappointment with Alpine, Alonso was already concentrating on Aston Martin, a project that fascinates him and which has been launched.
He was the first to leave the pit lane on Tuesday and the one who did the most laps. He completed 97 laps at Yas Marina in his first test with his new team, 39 more than at Sunday’s Grand Prix. More than 512 kilometers on the 5,281 meter track, 206 kilometers more than those of the race won by Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull).
With a helmet with multiple black and white stripes and only his name in sight, Alonso, who wore a black jumpsuit and could not wear sponsorship because he still had a contract with Alpine, trained about six hours with number 14 in the Aston Martin car and set a best time of 1:26.312, the third among the drivers who shot at Yas Marina with him.
He was only behind the Ferraris and edged Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez or Frenchman Pierre Gasly, who replaced the Spaniard in Alpine (1:26.555).
Monegasque Charles Leclerc was leading the clock (1:25.383) when the Asturian gave way to Canadian Lance Stroll, his new teammate in training which continued after Alonso’s stoppage.
