Uruguay imposed his signature in Bratislava, Slovakia. With a goal from a free kick from the feet of Nicols de la Cruz and a header from Darwin Nez, charra selection prevailed 0-2 against Canada in a friendly match at FIFA Date. This is the South Americans’ latest confirmed test ahead of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The Canadian team was the fourth round Concacaf for those led by Diego Alonso, after the 3-0 victory against Mexico, the 0-0 draw against the United States and the 5-0 victory against Panama. More than positive results for the South Americans, who did not concede a goal in these matches.
Although the North American team was slightly superior in possession (56%) and shooting (11 shots, 3 on goal; 6 and 2 from their rival), efficiency was on the charra side.
Barely at minute 6, a play on set pieces opened the key to victory. Nicols de la Cruz was responsible for scoring the first goal of the game, from a free kick at the entrance to the area. Despite the River Plate footballer slipping on his shot, the ball slipped past the Canadian frame.
The second and final goal came shortly after the first half hour. At 33′ Luis Surez was kicked in from the right wing, outflanked and sent in a cross towards the heart of the district, where Nez won with a header to put the final 0-2.
Uruguay’s debut at the World Cup in Qatar 2022 next November 24, when South Korea is measured in Group H activity; Canada will make its presentation the day before against Belgium, in action from Group F.
