Amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Spanish-born bank Santander announced it would stop doing new business with Russian companies
“We are in constant contact with the authorities, particularly European ones, and are applying international sanctions. Moreover, we will not do new business with Russian companies,” the institution said in a statement.
With this, the bank led by Ana Botín joins other companies that have stopped or suspended their activities with Russia, including American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Mazda and General Motors.

Amid the armed conflict, Santander eliminated commissions on all authorized transfers from European countries to Ukraine.
In addition, it eliminated account and card fees for Ukrainian customers in Poland and will allow free use of ATMs and permanent access to cash at branches and other points.
The financial institution underlined that it had also made a first donation of one million euros to the Red Cross and to UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency. He even said he would match any additional donations made by his employees.
