The Canadian women’s sextet eliminated the Republic this Saturday in their quest to advance to the third round of the World Championship, when they beat them in a close match 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 17-25, 27-25 ) and 15-7), corresponding to Group F.
Not counting the match between Germany and Poland, the Dominicans finished sixth in their group with 15 points. Only four teams qualified in each group and in Group F it was Serbia, USA, Turkey and Poland.
The Dominicans were behind this victory against their rivals with the aim of qualifying for the third round of the quarter-finals, but it was not possible.
The winning offense was led by Kiera Van Ryk with 24 points, followed by Alexa Gray with 17 and Emily Magilio with 13 points.
For the Dominican Republic, Gaila González was the best with 28 points, Brayelin Martínez contributed 19 and Jineirys Martínez with 17.
The winners presented a game based on good defense, good blocking and constant attack.
In the second, the Canadians managed to even the action with good defense, strong attacks from Kiera and Gray.
In the third, Canada continued to apply their pace of play offensively and defensively which could not be deciphered by their rivals and they managed to push forward in the game.
However, in the fourth, the Caribeñas, with good shots from Gaila González, Brayelin Martínez and Yonkaira Peña, managed to tie the game at two apiece, thus forcing a fifth decisive game.
In the fifth, the winners came out with more energy on the field and left their opponents with only seven points to take the victory.
