As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Nahuel Rosa Association, in collaboration with several organizations, will carry out different awareness activities on the importance of getting checks to attack the disease in time. Presentation of pink ribbons, diffusion of rowing in dragon boat, flower ceremony, solidarity haircut and informative talks are some of the proposals for the coming weeks.
Association member Astrid Bengtsson told ANB that “we started the month on Cerro Catedral by handing out pink ribbons and raising awareness, telling about our activity and the importance of getting checked. This week we will be in the hospital and one day close to the 19th, which is the world day, we will visit the center and Onelli”.
The woman also announced that the flower ceremony will take place soon, “a very moving and important moment because we remember those who did not survive. Flowers are thrown into the lake and those who fought but did not weren’t able to make it are called back. We don’t have the exact date yet because it also depends on the weather. networks will be on the program full of activities.

The main activities also include the screening of the documentary “Dragon Tamers”, which has already been shown at the Audiovisual Festival of Bariloche (FAB) and in Esquel; On October 15 and 19, it will be Dina Huapi’s turn at the SUM, where “Pelos alviento” will do a solidarity haircut to make wigs for women undergoing treatment. “In addition, interviews with Intecnus mastologists will be organized as well as campaigns to encourage checks,” Bengtsson said.
It should be noted that a large group of Nahuel Rosa is currently at the Fourth National Meeting of Rosa, in San Ignacio (Misiones). There they will “dress” in pink in several places such as the center, the Jesuit ruins, the Teyú Cuaré Provincial Park, the Osununu nature reserve, the house of Horacio Quiroga and they will also row a canoe in Playa del Floor .
Alongside the activities, companies support the organization, such as Onix, which will donate $30 to the Association for each hair removal performed, and Luz Azul, which has launched special alfajores for sale.

“The whole pink month is taken because of the importance of raising awareness to get screened, since breast cancer is the one with the highest incidence in Argentina but it is not the one with the highest mortality. higher. With early detection, the survival rate is 95%. This is what we want to show with the campaigns and our activity. Most have been there and have very good survival. The checks can detect the tumors two years before you could feel them,” he explained.
And he added: “We know that three out of 10 women do not do checks and it has to do with fear, anxiety. But it is important to do them and if you have bad news, like we did, you know that you have the support of all these pink groups and that detected in time, life is assured and good.
Among other data, Bengtsson indicated that “there are more than 25% who do not return for checks because they have suffered, but today there are devices that are much better”; and expanded that “men have breasts and, although the percentage of cancers is much lower, they can also present with the disease, so they should be palpated and checked”.
The oar that unites the survivors
Twenty-five years ago, Canadian physician Donald McKenzie confirmed that the cyclical and repetitive movements of paleo act as natural lymphatic drainage by preventing post-mastectomy lymphedema, a swelling of the arm that can appear after the removal of lymph nodes in cancer treatment. This is how the technique of the Dragon Boat, a variant of rowing, was born.

In Argentina, it was brought by an engineer from Neuquén. They started in this province and gradually began to spread throughout the country. Today, there are many groups everywhere because, unfortunately, it is the cancer with the highest incidence. Nahuel Rosa is one of the associations in charge of carrying out the activity in Bariloche.
“We row three times a week, Monday, Thursday and Saturday, at Arrayanes Parador, Colonia Suiza, and we do our main rowing activity, but we also go out and campaign for more people to come and row,” said Bengtson. There are more than 50 people between survivors and volunteers who join to spread the activity
“Emotionally and affectively it’s very important because you meet people who have been through the same thing, who know how you feel, they contain you. Being all in the same boat and rowing it has all the meanings you can imagine. It’s a very big support group, very nice, with a lot of friendship and empathy. We row all year round, neither the cold nor the snow stop us,” he said.
They are in the world
A few days ago, Nahuel Rosa shared a post on his social networks with a design similar to the famous album of figures from the 2022 World Cup, made by Damián Leibovich, director of the documentary “Dragon Tamers”.

“It’s a gift he gave us, after the screening at FAB, when we saw the film for the first time. It was very exciting,” Bengtsson said.
The documentary tells “how our beginnings were, that before we rowed on chairs, later on the quay of the lake and how we worked to get the boats”, he explained.
The play won three international awards: Best health-themed film at the Cannes World Film Festival and two special mentions at the Five Continents Film Festival, one for screenplay and one for direction. (ANB)
