Boccia: Micaela Salvador snagged the silver medal in Colombia

The athlete from Mar del Plata lost the BC3 category final against Stefanía Ferrando of Entre Ríos and finished second in the Challenger.

The Mar del Plata Michaela Salvador had a great performance during the week at Cali, Colombiaand this Friday silver medal in the BC3 category after losing an “Argentina final” to Stefanía Ferrando of Entre Ríos in Challenger boccia.

The regional competition held in Colombia awarded important points to reach the ranking in the Parapan American Games Chile 2023 and it was the 29-year-old from Mar del Plata who took a precious second place in the women’s category.

In the BC3 category of the female branch there was seven participants what were they divided into two groups, one with four and the other -of which Salvador was one- with three athletes. The first match was against Uruguayan Sandra Barboza and collected a comfortable 13-1 winwhile the second and last meeting of the group was measured by Canadian Marylou Martineau and the woman from Mar del Plata again won a comfortable victory, this time by 8 to 0.

After taking first place in Group B, they qualified for the semi-finals, in which case won 7-0 against local Colombian women Maria Velez Izazathus advancing towards the grand finale of the Category BC3.

In the decisive match, there was an Argentine clash between Mar del Plata Micaela Salvador and Stefania Ferrandoand there the one born in Gualeguay and with a long career in sport competing, among other competitions, in the Paralympic Games in Tokyo and the last World Cup, reached victory by 5 to 2.

Also, the other man from Mar del Plata who played Challenger boccia was Rodrigue Romerowho also participated in the Category BC3 on the male branch. The man born in the federal capital but based in Mar del Plata four years ago did not make it out of the group stage after losing 3-2 to Mexican Raúl López Rosa and Canadian Ryan Rondeau 3-1. to the Uruguayan Leonardo Fernández but it was not enough to qualify for the semi-finals and he remained with third place.

It should be mentioned that these two athletes were not the only ones from Mar del Plata in the Argentine delegation, which was also made up of the coaches Cristian Rosado, Pablo Iocca and Juan Leofanti, also born in the city.
