The Cuban women’s team beat Canada 3-0 today on the second day of the II edition of the Volleyball Final Six Tournament, which took place at the National Palace of this sport, in Santo Domingo.
The Cubans outscored the Canadians with consecutive streaks of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-21, in one hour and 21 minutes of play, with Dezirett Madan and Claudia Tarín standing out, the game’s leading scorers with 13 points.
According to the sites www.norceca.netMadan scored 10 goals in attack, one against and two on serve, while Tarin went 9-2-2.
The superiority of the disciples of Tomás Fernández is also reflected in the statistics of the challenge, with better results in attack, 40 points to 33, blocks (7-4), services (8-3) and errors that deliver goals to rivals (14 -20).
Among the Canadians, the best were Layne Van Buskirk (9/8-0-1) and Melissa Langegger (7/7-0-0).
From now on, the Cubans are displayed with a victory and a defeat, since this Sunday they lost 0-3 (19-25, 17-25 and 18-25) against the defending champion the Dominican Republic, while the northerners added their second loss, as in the first day they lost 0-3 (18-25, 15-25 and 18-25) against Puerto Rico.
The other two games on Monday are between the Puerto Ricans and the Americans, and the Mexicans and the Dominicans.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, the actions will continue with the Cuba-Mexico, United States-Canada and Dominican Republic-Puerto Rico encounters, in that order.
Due to the schedule of the competition, next Thursday the preliminary phase will end with the system of all against all and a day later the fifth place of the tournament will be discussed.
On Friday, the semi-finals will also take place, with the matches between second against third and first against fourth, which will define the teams that will discuss the medals on Saturday.
