Auger-Aliassime secures Malaga ticket for Canada

Valencia, September 17 (EFE).- Félix Auger-Aliassime qualified Canada for the Davis Cup finals in Malaga after beating Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3 and 6-4, while the following doubles match will decide if they make it as first or second in Group B.

The Canadian tied the game with Serbia at one point, but this point is decisive for a hypothetical triple tie, in case Serbia beat them and Spain win tomorrow, so the North American team is already part of the top eight teams in this year’s Davis Cup. .

Auger-Aliassime started the match in cruise mode which he left yesterday after his spectacular victory against world number one Carlos Alcaraz and won with a 4-1 start against a Kecmanovic who tried, unsuccessfully, to take the initiative of the match. The Canadian had his only critical moment in game seven, in which he lifted a 15-40, and he made no more concessions. The set is scored 6-3.

In the second round, the Canadian continued to show excellent performances with his serve, without giving options to his rival and without forcing Kecmanovic not to fail with his. The Serbian knew he couldn’t fail against a rival who, without offering the excellent tennis he showed against Alcaraz, continued to perform at a high level.

In the seventh game, Aliassime achieved the long-awaited ‘break’, synonymous with victory if he continued to maintain his level of service. Which he corroborated in the next two games to close out the game and the standings with a direct serve.
