Colombia won its first gold medal at the Pan American Championship

At the Pan American Track Cycling Championship taking place in Lima, Peru, the Colombian national team won its first gold medal thanks to Martha Bayona in the 500 meter time trial and rode the most top step of the podium.

Bayona beat the Canadian Kelsey Mitchell, current Olympic champion in the modality, the Colombian recorded a time of 33.463 seconds, this allowed her to give second place to Mitchell who achieved a time of 33.704 and the bronze medal was won by Colombian Juliana Gaviria with 34,491.

On the men’s side, Kevin Quintero added another bronze medal in Olympic sprint by beating Cristian Ortega and the gold went to Paul Nicholas of Trinidad and Tobago. The country that dominates the overall medal table of the Pan American Track Cycling Championships is Canada, with a total of 11 gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

The second place goes to Trinidad and Tobago with three gold medals, one silver and one bronze, finally, Colombia is positioned in fourth position with one gold medal, five silver and six bronze .
