The Canadian team, Olympic champions, will receive Jamaica this Thursday in their favor to qualify for the final of the Concacaf W championship, qualifying for the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Led by England’s Bev Priestman, the Canadians led Group B with authority, beating Trinidad and Tobago 6-0 and defeating Panama 1-0 and Costa Rica 2-0; their nine goals for and none against reflect the strength of the North American team, ranked sixth in the world.
The Jamaicans, ranked 51st on the FIFA list, finished second in Group A with a shock 1-0 win over Mexico and a 4-0 thrashing over Haiti, but were beaten 5-0 by the United States , a rival against whom they have shown many shortcomings.
Qualified for the World Cup in New Zealand, the Caribbean will come out strong in defense to try to stop the rival offensive machinery, which will immediately seek the opposite door.
With balance in all their lines, the Canadians showed a killer attack in the group stage, being the team with the most shots on goal, 51, with seven assists.
The duel will face the two top scorers of the tournament, the Canadian Julia Grosso and the Jamaican Khadija Shaw, even if in both cases they took advantage of weak defenses; Grosso, with two goals as a substitute in the match against Trinidadians and Shaw, with two against Haiti.
The winning team will compete for the title and direct passage to the Olympics with the best between the United States, two-time world champion, and Costa Rica.
