The relatives of the 21 victims of Villa de Pitanxo announced yesterday that they will not take part in the meeting organized by the government delegation in Galicia with the Canadian authorities for the next June 29. The relatives were not happy that they had been given such a closed date when they had asked for flexibility to allow as many interested parties as possible to be present.

Moreover, as they had been waiting for three months for a meeting that the government of Lima had already organized at the beginning of April for the relatives of the victims of this nationality, the people affected in Galicia traveled alone to the Canadian Embassy in Spain to organize this meeting with Halifax Rescue Services and Canadian government authorities. There they found only facilities, according to the group’s spokesperson, Maria Jose de Pazo. They offered to do the management, they offered us the seat of the embassy to hold the videoconference, they agreed to agree on the most suitable date…, he explained. De Pazo pointed out that this is a very important and very interesting meeting, which is why they intend to be present and, in addition, they have requested a translator specialized in maritime issues who can both transferring and translating the questions they raise. In short, we want more than what is offered by the government delegation in Galicia. For this reason, they prefer to continue through the Canadian Embassy, which is the one that has made arrangements and has the most rigor in the work, De Pazo pointed out.

For his part, the government delegate, Jos Miones, in statements to the media in Arousa, said that relatives were asked to indicate different dates and that the call for the 29th was closed to them by the Canada, a deadline communicated with me 15 days in advance so that families can organize themselves.
