According to the Cuban news agency (Acn), at Vilo Acuña International Airport in Cayo Largo del Sur, on the Isle of Youth, a new runway has just been inaugurated.
Construction and maintenance actions, in addition to paving the runway, included the 400-passenger capacity terminal building, new control tower and aircraft refueling systems.
The note specifies that the renovation of the airport will allow it to receive larger planes and that it is part of a package of investments aimed at reviving the island as a tourist destination.
The facility is owned by the Cuban Company of Airports and Aeronautical Services SA (ECASA). The main airlines that fly daily to and from this air terminal are Aerocaribbean, Cubana de Aviación, Aeroflot, Aerogaviota, Aeroméxico, Blue Panorama, COPA Airlines, LACSA and KLM.
Currently, the Cayo Largo del Sur resort is operated by the Gran Caribe hotel group, but during FITCuba 2022 it was announced that for the next winter season it will be managed by Blue Diamond Resorts, a Canadian hotel chain. with a growing presence in Cuba. .
