Medal ranking

Katie Vincent and Sloan MacKenzie (women's canoe, C2 500m semi-finals, 4:30, rest, 6:40)

The Canadians set an Olympic record by winning their heat. Vincent and MacKenzie teamed up to win bronze in the event at last year's world championships.

Marco Arop (men's 800m semi-finals, 5:30)

The Canadian is the current world champion in this event. The final will be played on Saturday.

Kelsey Mitchell (women's track cycling, sprint qualifying, heats, 8:00 a.m. to 1:10 p.m.)

The Canadian won Olympic gold in the event three years ago in Tokyo but has finished outside the top 10 at the last two world championships.

Jacqueline Simoneau and Audrey Lamothe (artistic swimming, duet technical routine, 1:30 p.m.)

Canadians won two bronze medals at the Olympic trials. It's the first day of the two-day competition.

Canadian women's 4×100-metre relay team (1:30 p.m. remaining)

The team set a national record to qualify for the final. Canada certainly won't be among the favourites to win a medal, but incredible things can happen in relays.

Sarah Mitton (women's shot put replay, 1:37 p.m.)

The Nova Scotian had the top score in the standings. At last year's world championships, he won silver in the event. World number one Chase Jackson of the United States failed to qualify for the final.

Canadian men's 4x100m relay (1:47 p.m. remaining)

Canada didn't have its best performance in qualifying, but still did enough to advance. The Canadians won silver in the World Athletics relays this year.

Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson (women's beach volleyball resumes, 4:30 p.m.)

The Canadians will face world number one Brazil, Ana Patricia Ramos and Eduarda Santos Lisboa (Duda), in the final. Canada has won four straight to overcome a 1-2 start. Canada has never won Olympic volleyball gold.
